Driving in Boston: what you need to know
Central Boston is small and compact – a nightmare for driver whom is unfamiliar with the Boston cobbled streets. Because the downtown area is pretty compact and attracts are close by, walking from place to place may be your best option.
Be aware that pedestrians often jaywalk in Boston. If you’re driving you must have your wits about you, because pedestrians will walk out with a ‘they won’t hit me’ attitude.

Road trips from Boston: what to see and do?
Cape Cod
You can travel south from Boston to Cape Cod for a day, with the ninety minute drive time it would be crazy not to explore this area; especially if you’re on a family vacation. Drive 93 South to Route 24 South to Route 495 over the Bourne Bridge and follow Route 28 South into Falmouth.
There are plenty of free activities to do in Cape Cod, from beaches to free tours of Cape Cod Beer in Hyannis, as well as free admission to Woods Hole Science Aquarium to cycling the 5.25 Province Lands trail.
Salem
If you’re visiting Boston around Halloween then Salem is an absolute must! Of course, the coastal city has been made famous by the stories that surround the Salem Witch Trials of 1692 so if you’re a history buff or interested in all things supernatural there’s plenty museums and activities to keep you occupied.
Springfield
If the weather is less than impressive, Springfield (90 miles from Boston) is the perfect day trip location to keep you occupied and sheltered from the bad weather. Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame is great for any sport lovers; there’s a great fusion of learning and entertainment. You’ll leave the hall knowing a bunch of new things about basketball and will most likely have a huge urge to shoot some hoops yourself . If you have small children or if you’re a fan of animals a visit to the Zoo in Forest Park should be on your list.
