Driving in Las Vegas: what you need to know
It’s common practice for hotels and casinos on the Strip to offer free parking. Usually there’s valet parking too, for a small fee. It’s a good idea to arrive early on Friday and Saturday nights, as the self-serve parking lots fill up quickly!

Road trips from Las Vegas: what to see and do
Red Rock Canyon
Red Rock Canyon National Park and Spring Mountains are both stunning spots just outside of the city that offer visitors excellent hiking and trekking. Take off from Las Vegas and head straight for the visitor’s center, where you can park your rental car and hit the trails. Don’t forget to bring enough water with you for the day; it can get really hot out there on the trails. Travel a little further to Lake Mead National Recreation Area for a dip in the hot springs.
Death Valley National Park
While Las Vegas is commonly thought of as a city destination, it’s right in the middle of some of the most interesting landscapes in the country. Two hours west of Vegas is Death Valley National Park, one of the hottest places on the planet and the lowest point in North America. We don’t recommend you visit between June and September, when temperatures easily climb up to 120°F. What can you expect? Salt flats, dramatic canyons, creeks and a great photo-op at Dante’s View.
Los Angeles
You’ll definitely want to spend more than a day or two in LA if you’re planning to venture this way. It’s a 4-hour drive from Las Vegas and makes a great site-trip to your vacation in Nevada. Start off in Hollywood, and then cruise down to the Westside with your car rental. Haven’t bought any souvenirs yet? You’ll find everything you need along Grand Avenue. There’s no place cooler than Venice for people spotting and you might even see a celebrity or two!
