Road trips from Salt Lake City: what to see and do
Alpine Loop Scenic Byway
Treasured as a local’s secret, the Alpine Loop Scenic Byway is the most talked about road excursion. The scenic 20-mile drive winds through beautiful glacier-carved peaks and provides you will some breathtaking views of the alpine canyons of the Wasatch Range.
The best to take this route is between May to October, snow closes part of the road for the rest of the year. But prime viewing is in October when the fall colors of the red maples and yellow aspens become almost too vivid to be believed.
Park City
Here, skiing is truly world class. It is the home base for the US Ski Team and was the site for the 2002 Winter Olympic Games. There’s plenty of expensive $10 million ski-in’s to admire, and after you’ve looked at what you can’t afford take a trip to the Tanger Factory Outlet Centre in Kimball Junction to buy yourself something pretty, and make yourself feel a little bit better. The outlet is ranked as one of the best outlet malls in the country.
Bryce Canyon National Park
Bryce Canyon National Park is approximately four hours from Salt Lake City. There are plenty of tourist attractions there to keep you occupied for days. You can take a guided horseback ride, if you want to get closer to nature (and are too lazy to walk), or you can hike on one of the many trails or attend a rodeo.
Despite the array of amazing tourist attractions to choose from, the highlight of the trip will most certainly be the drive through Red Canyon and Escalante which will captive you with its beauty. It might even keep the kids quiet for a while.
