Where to rent a car in St Louis

St Louis has a strong connection with music, many music legends started their career jammin’ at the many fantastic music venues that are still around today. Stars like Tina Turner, Chuck Berry, Scott Joplin and Miles Davis partly have St Louis to thank for their success.

Along with the buzzing nightlife and music scene, there are plenty of fun things to do with the family. Take a visit to City Museum “where imagination runs wild” in a 600,000 square-foot building which was once an International Show Company. The museum is an exciting mixture of different structures which are made for children: funhouse, playground, surrealistic pavilion and other unique objects make up the interesting museum.

If you’re arriving in St Louis by plane you may wish to pick up your rental car from one of the many car rental companies located at Lambert, St. Louis International Airport (STL). Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz, National and Thrifty are all available as you step off your flight. Use liligo.com to compare the cheapest car rentals to ensure you get the best deal possible.

Driving in St Louis; what you need to know

If you’re planning on driving into Downtown for dinner, sporting event or to visit the famous Gateway Arch then parking shouldn’t be a problem.

Parking meters are in operation Monday through Saturday from 8am – 7pm, therefore parking is free after 7pm or on Sundays, as well as City Holidays.

In the winter you will share the roads with large, weighty plow trucks. They are slow moving and frustrating if you get stuck behind one, but you must not pass a snow plow unless absolutely necessary. The truck driver will have blind spots so may not be able to see you and be aware of your presence.

When driving in hazardous weather conditions reduce your speed and leave early, planning your route and giving yourself plenty of time to reach your destination. Tip: avoid routes with steep inclines and lightly traveled roads.

Road trips from St Louis

Santa Claus

Take your rental car about 3 hours east out of St Louis and you will reach Santa Claus, the perfect family destination. Here you will find a fantastic amusement and water park, Holiday World. The park will quench your families thirst for fun and free – quite literally. Holiday World provides free soft drinks and sun cream throughout your visit.

Christmas is the perfect time to visit; the town is famous for being the home of the world’s only post office with Santa Claus name, so the people of Santa Claus really do embrace the Christmas spirit. The man himself, Santa Claus can even be spotted in the summer, and of course the holiday season.

Kansas City

If you fancy travelling west of St Louis then take Interstate 70 for 4 hours to reach Kanas City. Again, if you’re travelling with the family then his is a great destination to visit. Legoland Discovery Center is located here and will be the first place on your child’s list to visit. Legoland offers plenty of interactive and educational activities to keep your little ones occupied until the evening – and hopefully wear them out so they sleep all night. There’s 4D cinema, master classes from the LEGO® Master Model Builder and Lego rides.

Nashville

If you’re a fan of music, especially country, then it would be a sin not to take a trip in your rental car to Nashville. It’s a hub of aspiring country stars and songwriters all trying to hit the big time in the Music City – of course this makes for a buzzing creative atmosphere. Quite rightly, the city is also home to the Country Music Hall of Fame which has just completed a $100 million expansion. You must visit the Bluebird Café, an intimate venue in suburban South Nashville which has hosted some of the best original singer-songwriters in the country music industry. If you’re a budding country singer, head over on a Monday evening for their open mic nights.
