Experience Atlanta: sights, tours and activities
Atlanta, the capital of the South, is booming. Attractions like the new and glitzy Georgia Aquarium and the World of Coca-Cola can’t keep the tourists away. We bet the new panda cub at the Atlanta Zoo is doing the trick too. Among all the megamalls and fancy restaurants, don’t forget to discover the city’s rich African American history as well.
Essentials in Atlanta
Georgia Aquarium: The world’s larges aquarium has certainly put Atlanta on the map. It’s always crowded but it would be a pity to miss the whale sharks, belugas and the dolphin show where trainers and dolphins perform together in what looks like the closest thing to Broadway under the sea.
Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historic Site: History buffs will appreciate a trip to this part of town in Sweet Auburn. The site includes the leader’s birthplace home, his grave and also the church where he used to give sermons. The museum and memorial will fill in any details you missed in history class.
Grant Park: This is the oldest park in Atlanta and where you’ll find the city zoo. Mingle with flamingos, talk to a tiger, kiss a kangaroo and flap your ears like an elephant but the zoo’s real pride and joy are the pandas.
